As I was inside exploring the old West Clay High School I was completely unaware of the beautiful sunset that awaited us outside as we headed to the car to leave, so I stopped and snapped a quick photo of it and this was the result. The sunset looked great contrasting with the old abandoned building bringing beauty into despair. I think this has become a theme with my work. I seem to be drawn to places like this to photograph but in my editing I like to bring out the beauty in it.
To get deep for a minute, I think that's the way that I see the world. There is much despair in this world that can sometimes seem overwhelming but one can easily see, if you look close enough, that there is just as much beauty that can easily overwhelm the bad stuff. I guess it's a choice you have to make, whether you see it or not.
So I hope that fellow photographers don't just go out looking for what others like to see, but try to capture a piece of themselves in their work and show others how the world might look through your own eyes.
